SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH
STREU’S STRIVES TO MEET GROWING NEED, DELIVER SERVICES TO SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH
The last few years have shone a much-needed light on mental health struggles in our community. Rates of suicide, overdose, anxiety, and depression have all been on the rise. However, we’re also seeing some of the silence and stigma surrounding mental health issues start to lift. At Streu’s Pharmacy, we’re working to reframe conversations about mental health, and look for new ways to support our community.
September is Suicide Prevention Month. According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, 861 Wisconsin residents died by suicide in 2020. The root causes are varied and complex. Mental illness, addiction and stress can be critical factors.
The 988 Lifeline
988 is now active across the United States. This new, shorter phone number will make it easier for people to remember and access mental health crisis services.

SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY
As Green Bay’s trusted, local, independent pharmacy, we’re committed the whole health picture for our patients and customers -both physical and mental. This Suicide Prevention Month, we’re reflecting on ways we can work to support the mental health of our community members.
- Streu’s has joined the Aging & Disability Resource Center’s Sober Green Bay initiative. SGB strives to normalize sober living in Green Bay. We’re proud to be the area’s first Sober-Friendly pharmacy. We have discreet, easy-to-grab cards with recovery resources placed throughout our building -just look for the yellow balloon decals.
- Increased mental health struggles and substance abuse means an increased need for treatment services. In a typical situation, a patient needing Vivitrol or a long-acting anti-psychotic injection must pick up the prescription injection at a pharmacy. Then, they must bring it to their doctor for administration. Uniquely, our nurses and pharmacists can provide these injections right away on-site! This can help patients stick to treatment plans, improve outcomes, and even save the cost of an office visit co-pay.
- Adverse drug reactions can have a significant negative impact on mental health. Our comprehensive medication reviews (CMRs) can help address destabilizing side-effects. In turn, this can improve mental health outcomes. CRMs are available both in-person and online.
WE’RE HERE FOR YOU
While it can seem minor compared to more concrete treatments, the small things we do every day to manage stress and prioritize self-care are also critically important. In our retail store, you’ll find a host of wellness-related products including CBD, essential oils and more that promote stress relief and holistic wellness.
We’re proud to help lead the effort to reframe the conversation on mental health, and provide tangible mental health support to our community. Please feel free to contact us anytime to learn more about our services. Our nursing and pharmacy teams are always happy to discuss any questions or concerns. We’re here for you!
