Create Healthy Routines – Not Doomed Resolutions – with Streu’s Diabetes Prevention Program

Plain and simple, New Year’s Resolutions are famous for failing – especially when it comes to establishing the healthy habits that can help with diabetes prevention. Streu’s Pharmacy has a different option for 2022, specifically designed for the 8 in 10 people with pre-diabetes who don’t even know they have it.

Streu’s Diabetes Prevention Program is a lifestyle course – offering the guidance, support and accountability that individual resolutions lack – focused on small but doable changes. This program is based on a national model that, when completed, lowered participants’ risk of getting diabetes by more than 50%. It’s open to all community members, not just patients of Streu’s Pharmacy. (Note: those who have already been diagnosed with diabetes by their doctor are not eligible. We are also happy to help you determine whether your insurance will help pay for program registration).

Diabetes can lead to many other health problems including diseases of the heart, eyes, kidneys, and feet. Diabetes medications and related health problems are expensive and can be difficult to manage. People who answer “yes” to any of the following questions could be at risk for diabetes:

  • Are you over age 40?
  • Are you overweight?
  • Do you have a family member with diabetes?
  • Do you have high blood pressure?
  • Do you exercise fewer than three times per week?
  • Have you ever had gestational diabetes?
