HEALTH LITERACY MONTH

HEALTH LITERACY MONTH

A CHECKLIST FROM STREU’S

For more than 20 years, October has been recognized as Health Literacy Month. During this time, healthcare providers and civil organizations work to help improve people’s understanding of their individual health issues and needs. At Streu’s Pharmacy we firmly believe the more informed people are about different health issues and topics, the better for their individual health and the health of our whole community.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of four major ways we can work with you on an individual level, along with practical ways to get started!

MONITORING

Understanding your baselines and monitoring key health data points – such as blood pressure and cholesterol – is a great first step toward health literacy. Knowing what’s normal *for you* helps you know when changes might be a cause for concern.

  • TAKE ACTION: We offer on-site monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol, and hemoglobin A1c to members of the general public. We’ll help you get started and discuss your results with you, so you can make informed choices about your health.

PREVENTION

Make your prevention proactive. It’s easy in daily life to put off recommended services and screenings such as annual wellness exams and cancer screenings. However, studies overwhelmingly show that early detection of illnesses and cancers saves lives.

  • TAKE ACTION: Contact your primary care provider today to see if you’re overdue for any services. Make sure you have your calendar handy to easily schedule any needed tests, checkups, or screenings.

ADHERENCE

Our pharmacists are passionate about ensuring our patients take the right medication, at the right time, in the right dose – every single time. This is key for optimal health, especially for those juggling multiple medications.

  • TAKE ACTION: Call us today to learn about two important services that can help ensure medications are taken correctly. We use Medicine on Time blister packaging for its proven effectiveness and easy-to-use system. We pack the meds for you, eliminating the need to juggle different bottles or fill weekly planners. In addition, we use CycleRX to streamline prescription refills together on a monthly schedule. This service is particularly beneficial for those who have transportation barriers or mobility issues.

WHOLE HEALTH

Mental and physical health go hand in hand. Stress-management and self-care are critical to whole health. For some with more complex mental health needs, we provide specific mental healthcare in the form of long-lasting injectable medications that help treat addiction, schizophrenia, bipolar, and other mental health challenges. We also provide Comprehensive Medication Reviews (CMRs) to assess for any changes that could be made to reduce fall risk and unpleasant side-effects, and improve overall quality of life.

  • TAKE ACTION: In our retail store, you’ll find a host of wellness-related products including CBD, essential oils and more that promote stress relief and holistic wellness.
  • Schedule a CMR for yourself or your loved one at no cost to you. Contact Tammy at 920-593-2483.

How can we help you improve your health literacy? We’d love to hear from you to learn more about your health needs and how we can help meet them!
